Barnsley RUFC was founded in 1902. The club played at Wombwell Lane, Stairfoot, before moving to Shaw Lane during the 1990’s. The club currently play in Yorkshire Division Two, and are striving for promotion to Yorkshire’s elite division.

Barnsley’s famous squash courts opened in February 1974 with two courts. The club championship’s began in the late 1970’s. In 1982 two further squash courts were added. The squash section was connected to the main building in 2001, before an additional exhibition court was built in 2002.
The club won the Yorkshire Premier League title in 2014, for the first time in their 40-year history.
Barnsley Cricket Club moved to Shaw Lane in 1864, following the merge of the Clarence Club, the Locke Club and the Barebones Club. Past players for Barnsley include Dickie Bird, Michael Parkinson and Geoffrey Boycott.
The club have four teams which cater for all standards of cricket from the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League through South Yorkshire Senior League and the Pontefract League.
Barnsley Archery Club is over forty years old and have been based at Shaw Lane since the mid-1970’s. The club has over 50 members including those from Yorkshire and afar. The club takes part in a full range of archery disciplines and has achieved national success.
Barnsley C & AC bowling section was formed in 1904. The club’s first competitive season commenced in 1905. The facilities at Barnsley include two bowling greens, both including floodlights, drawing in bowlers from across Yorkshire. There are a number of highly-skilled personnel from Barnsley Bowling Club who have represented their county.
Barnsley Harriers are a diverse group of runners whom compete over a wide range of distances. The club has been established for over two decades and caters for a full range of abilities and ages. The club is both friendly and competitive, taking part in events upwards of 5km locally, nationally and internationally.
